Hearing about a ‘catalogue of failures’ discovered at the Connaught Hotel in Wolverhampton, a jury trial found its former owners guilty of 11 charges of failing to take sufficient fire precautions for which they have been fined £49,933.00 including costs.
The failures included a fire alarm not working and a fire risk assessment that was ‘a fake’.

An external fire risk assessor and a hotel manager have both been jailed for eight months for fire safety offences.
The manager had previously pleaded guilty to 15 offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, while the assessor of Mansfield Fire Protection Services pleaded guilty to two offences under the legislation. Continue reading
